Who we are

Waktu Solat is a prayer times app and a set of simple tools for mosques and suraus, serving Muslim communities in Malaysia and Singapore. This policy covers the mobile app (iOS and Android) and the community web pages at waktusolat.community.

What we collect

We deliberately keep this list short:

  • Account details — your email address and display name, if you create an account.
  • Prayer preferences — your selected prayer zone, azan and notification settings, and app language. These mostly live on your device.
  • Location — used only to detect your prayer zone and Qibla direction. We don't store your precise GPS location on our servers, and you can pick your zone manually instead.
  • Basic app diagnostics — anonymous crash and performance data that helps us fix problems.
  • Mosque admin accounts — committee members sign in with a name and email to run the mosque TV display, publish activity announcements and manage donation campaigns. These tools don't require us to collect jemaah members' personal data, IC numbers or identity documents.

How we use it

We use this information to show accurate prayer times, send the azan and activity reminders you turn on, remember your settings across your devices, fix technical issues, and let mosque committees keep in touch with their members. That's it.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We don't use your data to build advertising or tracking profiles.
  • We don't store your precise GPS coordinates on our servers.
  • We don't ask mosques for IC numbers or sensitive identity documents.

Who we share it with

We only use trusted infrastructure providers needed to run the service: Google Firebase (secure cloud database, notifications and basic analytics) and the Apple App Store / Google Play (if you ever subscribe, they handle the payment — we only see a purchase receipt, never your card details). We may also disclose data if the law genuinely requires us to.

Keeping data safe

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access is limited to the people who run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so if you ever think your account or a mosque's list has been accessed improperly, email us straight away and we'll help.

Mosque committees: your responsibility

If you're a committee member publishing announcements or donation campaigns, please keep the content to mosque information and avoid including other people's personal details unless they have agreed. The tools are designed so you don't need to upload jemaah members' personal data.

Your choices

You're in control of your data. You can turn notifications and location off in your device settings at any time, choose your prayer zone manually, and ask us to show, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you. Just email us and we'll take care of it.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages for general prayer time use. We don't knowingly collect personal data from young children. If you believe a child has shared personal data with us, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes & contact

Waktu Solat is an independent project, and we aim to follow the principles of Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 — collecting only what we need and handling it with care.
